Opener Kraig Brathwaite was dismissed by pacer Umesh Yadav to give the home team the upper hand in the second innings after a follow-on had been enforced at Eden Gardens.

Brathwaite was caught behind by MS Dhoni at a score of nine runs as a faint edge did him in, with the scorecard reading 23/1.

West Indies 1st Innings

Indian bowlers came up with an intimidating performance to wrap-up the hapless looking West Indies outfit for a paltry 153 runs and enforcing a follow-on with a lead of 478 runs.

The last man to go was Fidel Edwards (16), giving Pragyan Ojha his fourth scalp of the innings.

Kemar Roach (2) was run out in an unlucky turn of events where the ball deflected from Ojha’s hands. Soon after, the penultimate wicket fell in the form of Carlton Baugh (13) as Ojha got his third victim.

The scorecard read 129/9, making the follow-on a certainty as the Indian squad was pumped up to win the second Test.

Ojha had spun the West Indies skipper Darren Sammy out of contention, getting the seventh wicket and almost sealing the fate of the visitors to come out and bat again.

Compounding misery on the West Indies, Umesh Yadav had continued to spit fire, getting his second victim of the morning in Marlon Samuels. The scorecard read a dismal 99/6 at the fall as the home team made a strong point with the bowlers as well.

Prior to this, Darren Bravo (30) was clean bowled by Yadav to get half of the visitors’ team back in the pavilion and a certainty of a follow-on coming closer to realisation. Bravo tried to defend a fuller delivery without moving his feet forward, got a thick inside edge that uprooted his off stump, sending the Kolkata crowd in frenzy.

After the success with the bat, the bowlers complimented it with a solid display after doubts were raised about the track being too batsmen friendly.

India were breathing down the West Indies’ neck as Ravichandran Ashwin took the second wicket of the morning in the form of danger-man Shivnarine Chanderpaul (4). The scorecard read a bleak 46/4 (18.3 Overs).

Ojha had started the campaign for India early on in the morning session of Day 3 of the second Test by claiming Kirk Edwards lbw at a score of 16 runs.

Edwards was done in by excellent variations from Ojha as the scorecard read 42/3, bringing out Chanderpaul to the turf. The veteran batsman had a tough task at hands with the danger of a loss looming large on the visitors with almost three days of cricket left in the Test. He could sadly, not step up to the occasion.

Earlier on Day 2, West Indies were feeling the pressure at 34/2 when bad light forced an early end to the second day’s play at Eden Gardens, trailing India by a massive 597 runs.
